Robert Hitchins partnered with Lidl to obtain planning consent for a foodstore on this derelict site, developing and leasing the completed scheme to the supermarket chain on a 25 year lease. Lidl subsequently purchased the completed investment.
Lidl GB's Regional Head of Property, Glen Stidever, commented at the time: "There's been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and we are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far. We now look forward to opening our doors and serving our fresh, quality produce to the local community."
The store forms part of Lidl's £1.45bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2019 and 2020. Its ongoing success shows so signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl's increase in sales year on year and market share of 6.1%.
Kingsway has emerged on the site of the former 340-acre RAF Quedgeley. The original masterplan included 3,300 homes, a 40-acre employment site, community and leisure facilities, retail, sports area and primary school which Robert Hitchins has been instrumental in delivering.
